There are many places to hunt on public conservation lands and hunters can make use of huts and tracks managed by DOC to access remote hunting areas.

When hunting ensure that there is minimal environmental impact, e.g. disposal of offal and collection of cartridge cases.

The Department of Conservation provides hunting permits for people wanting to hunt on public conservation land. This way hunters are informed of any pest control operations happening in the area they are hunting and the Department can keep track of how many people are hunting in each area for safety reasons.
